Abstract
The sera from two hundred random blood donors were screened for the presence of antibodies specific to cytomegalovirus(CMV) using latex agglutination methods. The CMV latex particles(Beckton- Dickinson, USA) which were coated with CMV antigen, were incubated for 8 min at room temperature with 25uL sera, and then, the agglutination was examined for agglutination. The sensitivity of latex agglutination was compared with that of EIA. Only four among 200 screened samples were seronegative, resulting that the seropositive rate from 200 random blood donors was 98% by latex agglutination method. The results of titration by latex agglutination method showed good correlation with those of EIA. In summary, latex agglutination method is a simple and rapid to perform and could be efficient in selection of seronegative blood donors.
